Essendon has revealed its 2019 Dreamtime Guernsey, which will be worn in the Dreamtime at the ‘G clash with Richmond in the Sir Douglas Nicholls Indigenous Round on May 25.

This year’s vibrant jumper was designed by artist Merryn Apma Atkinson, an original participant in the inaugural Long Walk in 2004.

She explained the special meaning behind the design that honours Long and his fellow walkers on the 15th anniversary of the famous journey to Canberra.

“The colours represent Essendon, Mother Earth and our people,” Atkinson said.

“The circles and tracks are the towns and mileage walked by Michael Long.

“The square symbols are Michael with his stick and the men who walked with him. The ‘U’ shapes represent the women who walked.

“The circles are the people who came together as a blended community – this is the legacy of the Long Walk.”

The unique jumpers are now on sale, so you can get your very own Dreamtime Guernsey today.
