Scans have confirmed a ruptured ACL for Essendon forward Daria Bannister, ruling her out for the remainder of the 2023 AFLW season.

Bannister suffered the injury after quickly changing direction late in the final quarter of Saturday night’s win over Richmond.

While initially being cleared of structural damage post-match, further assessment showed the full extent of Bannister’s injury, with the 24-year-old set to undergo surgery this week.

Head of Medical Services Megan Smith provided an update on Bannister, with the club ready to assist her through the setback.

“Despite testing well clinically on Saturday night, scans from Sunday morning have confirmed an ACL rupture in Daria's right knee,” Smith said.

“While we’re incredibly disappointed for her, we have wrapped around Daria and her family and will continue to support her through this period.

“We will seek the surgical opinion early this week and turn our focus to recovery and rehabilitation.”
