General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said following the soft-tissue injuries to David Hille, Nathan Lovett-Murray and David Myers, the club would be focusing on covering the expanding injury list with depth.

“We’ve got quite a long injury list at the moment which is disappointing given we are only two rounds in, but one thing we have worked hard at over the last couple of years is trying to increase the depth in our list,” Hamilton said.

“The good news is that Hocking and Hooker should return this week from injury and we’ve got players like Bellchambers, Davey, Reimers and Dyson all looking to step up in to the senior side so hopefully we have the depth to cover our injuries.”

Hamilton said scans had revealed positive outcomes to the injuries of Hille, Lovett-Murray and Myers following the Bombers' 25-point victory over Port Adelaide on the weekend.

“We’ve had some good news in the last 24 hours and that is none of them are severe injuries so they really are as minor as they can be,” he said.

“For both Nathan and David (Myers), they are minor hamstring injuries which is great news under the circumstances.

“For David (Hille), the injury is to his soleus muscle and that too is quite minor so the good news is they are all minor injuries and should only miss a few weeks, but at the same time we don’t like having any type of injuries.

“With Sam Lonergan’s suspension, that’s four players that will be sidelined this week.”

Hamilton also said the recent news of Jason Winderlich’s torn hamstring was disappointing for the 27-year-old veteran.

“Often when players come back from knee reconstructions, they have hamstring problems and that is what has happened to Jason,” he said.

“There is a tear in his hamstring so he will be out for another couple of weeks which is disappointing for him but he will be straight back into it and we’ll have a strong player on our hands in the second half of the year.”

If selected, Dustin Fletcher will play his 350th AFL game against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium this weekend.
