Essendon CEO Ian Robson is taking part in the 2012 St. Vincent de Paul CEO Sleepout at Etihad Stadium on Thursday June 21 and wants your support.

The Bombers chief will join business leaders from right across Australia braving the elements and experiencing homelessness first hand for a night.

Robson said he hoped the experience would provide a platform to raise both money and awareness for an important issue in Australia.

“In doing this we experience the challenge that many people face every single day and at that time of year it is the depths of winter so it is not going to be warm,” he said.

“There is a challenge that some people face every single day and St. Vinnies is just one of those organisations that is there to reach out and help individuals who are in distressed circumstances of whatever cause.”

North Melbourne CEO Eugene Arocca, who is currently leading the way in the donations stakes, is also taking part in the Sleepout.

“There is some good friendly banter in all of this and I am not going to put a cap on what my expectations are in fundraising,” Robson said.

“It has become a little bit competitive with my good friend Eugene Arocca who has kindly offered to reserve the piece of concrete next to him for me to sleep on during the night.

“If between us we can infect a bit of this spirit through the football community and continue to grow the awareness along with raise some funds then we have done a good thing and I am certainly happy to be a part of it.”

Over 105,000 men, women and children sleep out across Australia each night, with the support of this event St. Vincent de Paul can turn the tide and give people the opportunities to rebuild their lives.
