Essendon has selected Nate Caddy with pick No.10 in the 2023 AFL Draft.

The Bombers traded pick 11 and 31 to move up one spot to secure the Northern Knights product.

Caddy excelled in the second half of the season, playing as a general forward.

The Parade College student was excellent in the Coates Talent League and also put together strong performances representing Vic Metro.

General Manager, List & Recruiting Adrian Dodoro said Caddy was an astute pick for the Bombers.

"We were really looking to improve our front half this year. We wanted an extroverted guy up forward who could attract the ball and we've done that tonight. We targeted him (and) we wanted him," Dodoro said.

"The thing about Nate is he's a boy who won't die wondering. He's a big solid young man, he wants the moment and just talking to him, he's got that enthusiasm to play straight away.

"We're really confident he'll put his hand up at some stage next year, but there's no pressure. We've got a pretty good front half in Peter Wright, Kyle Langford and Jake Stringer, but he's (Caddy) for the future."
