Essendon general manager of football operations Paul Hamilton confirmed Fletcher was making strong progress in his recovery from the injury.
“We think Fletch should be fine, we will once again monitor him throughout the week but we were confident it was only ever going to be one week,” Hamilton said.
“We will see how he gets through training over the course of the week but he is more likely to play then not.”
In more positive news for the club ruckman David Hille (calf) and midfielder David Myers (hamstring) are both expected to play this weekend.
“We are really excited they will be back playing football at some level this weekend,” Hamilton said.
“It will be great to see David Hille back as he has been such an important player to us in the past.”
Dyson Heppell who missed his first game since joining the Bombers last weekend through knee soreness will be monitored throughout the week in an aim to take on Melbourne.
“We will wait till later in the week and we will give him his opportunity but I would expect he will miss one more week.”
Hamilton said forward Stewart Crameri who had some adductor soreness throughout Saturday night’s match will also be given the full week to prove his fitness.
“We will have to monitor him during the week and we will see how he comes up over the course of the week,” he said.
