Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy wasn't making excuses after the Bombers' shock loss to Carlton tonight at the MCG. Sheedy praised the young Carlton outfit and said they were simply too good for an Essendon side which made too many errors and poor decisions.

Q. Carlton seemed to want it more tonight?
A. They played very, very well and it is a credit to a young side coming through. We probably saw signs of it last week against Colingwood. We made a very poor start and we were playing catch up football from there on. It was very disappointing and this club and these players need to take stock. Sometimes you get caught out but I told the players for one moment don't think that Cartlon is a bottom side.

Q.Does the result say more about Carlton than it does Essendon?
A.They have got a very good young side and it won't be long until we start bringing in young players to our side. If you are not the desperate player that you should be you won't play at Essendon - no names but that is what is going to happen.

Q.Did you feel you could still win the game at three quarter time?
A. We had our opportunities and we started to get the ball in the last quarter when we went inside 16 times but we missed some very, very easy goals. Goals that you would have thought players like Rioli, Lloyd and Ramanauskas would have kicked.

Q. What do you do with Mark Mercuri - you have publicly baked him and he was on and off the bench tonight?
A. There will be players that we will consider at selection depending on the mix and who we are playing. If he ends up in the side he knows that every match he plays in he would want to start playing better, otherwise you don't end up in the side.
