Football Operations Manager Steve Alessio said Hurley was expected to return to full training next week ahead of the club’s Round 1 encounter.
“He rolled his ankle a little bit in Canberra and the doctors and physio just want him to be a bit cautious this week to make sure the ankle comes up well,” Alessio said.
“He was in a moon boot at yesterday’s Family Day but I can assure you everything is ok.
“He should be fine and in full flight for training in preparation for Round 1. “
David Zaharakis will play in his first match of the pre-season on Friday afternoon when he lines up for club’s VFL practice match against Bendigo at Windy Hill.
"He will be in the VFL side this week in preparation to get a spot in the team that travels to Adelaide,” Alessio said.
“We are hoping Zaka goes alright in the VFL this weekend.”
Veteran Jason Winderlich is continuing to make progress in his bid for a return to football from a groin complaint that has interrupted his pre-season campaign.
“Jason has been out for a while and won’t be playing in Round 1,” Alessio said.
“He is probably the only player on our list who won’t be playing in Round 1.”
“He is building up with his running and his kicking as of today at training and hopefully he will be available early in the season.”
The Bombers first match of the season is just ten days away when they will face Adelaide at AAMI Stadium to kick off the AFL season.
