In the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours, Barry Capuano has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), recognising his exceptional service to Australian rules football and the Essendon Football Club.
A beloved figure within the football community, Capuano’s involvement with the sport spans many decades, marked by his commitment both on and off the field.
The Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) is a fitting tribute to Capuano’s significant contribution to the sport.
Capuano served the Dons 118 times from 1959-1966, twice representing Victoria and playing a vital role in the Bombers’ 1962 premiership, finishing as one of the best on the ground.
Capuano continued his strong affiliation with the club by serving on the EFC Committee between 1973 and 1975, as well as holding the role of General Manager at the club between 1981 and 1988.
In 2023 Barry was upgraded to Legend status in the club’s Hall of Fame and in 2025 received AFL Life Membership.
Everyone at the Essendon Football Club congratulates Barry on this incredible achievement.
