Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Scott has never played poorly in finals - what a great record to have. His move to centre half back has been a success. It has allowed Scott to display his abilities more often, than playing at the more difficult centre half forward position where you can be crowded out of the game. At centre half back, his long kicking and his ability to courageously mark the ball in packs and running and kicking were a very important component of the team's success in the second half. He has taken a really significant step forward at this stage of his career. I suppose now he could be recognised as one of the premier defenders in the competition.
What some of fan’s had to say:
The decision to play him at centre half back was a bit of a surprise at the time, but what an inspired idea it turned out to be. Really found his niche in the back half, and we all know he can go forward when we need to mix things up a little - easily his best year ever, well done Scotty! Michael Wyres
His best ever season with the club both at half forward and in the backline. His best and fairest win was recognition of his great year. His play always set up opportunities for other players at all areas of the ground. Sarah Collins
A deserved winner of our b&f with Jimmy. Scott proved himself to be one of the most valuable players in modern day football. He dominated opposition forwards and kicked goals up the other end. Ben Jenkin
Excellent year from Scott, probably his most consistent. CHB may now become his position, he gives great drive from defence and is still a valuable option up forward. With Jacobs gone pressure will be on to repeat his form in 2004. Rod Ansell
The move to half-back was a good move for Lucas. He looked comfortable back there and could still move forward to kick goals when required. A deserving best and fairest winner. Clinton Fisk
By far and away Scott's best and most consistent season, and deservedly won the best and fairest award for it. The move to defense was a stroke of brilliance from the coaching staff, as his long left footers really put pressure on the opposition. With a full year in the backline under his belt, he might be even better next year! Shane King
Scott had his best season this season and it is hoped that he plays as well next season and hopefully builds on to achieve the next level of excellence which would make him one of the teams stars. Donald Mitchell
Scott, you have enjoyed a wonderful season. Well done. It is very rewarding to see you develop and make the next step in your footy career. I always enjoy your play. Thanks for the service you have given to the Bombers! John Poke
