The former Essendon great and Anmatjere and Marranunggu man from the Tiwi Islands has been acknowledged for his work in the First Nations space.

On Saturday, Long was announced as a the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 by the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC).

The club would like to extend it's congratulations to Michael on what is a tremendous achievement.

This week (Sun, 6 July 2025 – Sun, 13 July) the club will celebrate NAIDOC week with activities and events that recognise the histories, cultures, achievements and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to Essendon and the AFL.
