Essendon will unveil yet another debutant this season, with Rhys Unwin to don the sash for the first time against St Kilda on Friday night.
With Unwin’s first senior outing, the Bombers have now blooded 15 debutants this season, providing plenty of important exposure at the highest level to its emerging core of young talent.
The 18-year-old dasher has shown promising signs via the VFL since being selected with pick No.61 in last year’s National Draft, featuring in 16 games and showcasing his ability to break lines off half back and more recently through the midfield.
Unwin joins a tight-knit group of youngsters to make their mark in red and black in an opportunistic year for the wider squad. His evasiveness in traffic and raking left foot were notable traits in his draft year and have translated nicely since joining the Club.
A fresh move on-ball has seen Unwin even more involved in general play over the last fortnight, tallying a season-high 24 disposals and booting a goal in an impressive performance against Sydney at VFL level interstate.
Bombers fans will be keen to see the teenager open his AFL account and bring his exciting run-and-carry under the roof against the Saints from 7:20pm on Friday.
As part of a special deal for this week’s primetime clash, General Admission tickets are available for just $7.
