Essendon has secured another two signatures for next season, with Maggie MacLachlan and Chloe Adams penning one-year deals to remain in red and black.

The re-signings come off the back of Alex Morcom, Mia Busch and Sophie Alexander also putting to paper, continuing a solid run of player retention for the Club.

Coming into the NEC Hangar as a replacement player this season, MacLachlan has made her mark within the program, featuring in nine consecutive games for the first time in her AFLW career.

Impressing in a role on the wing, MacLachlan’s natural footy IQ and ability to break lines with her kicking have stood out – her Club debut of two brilliant goals from 13 touches a strong reflection of that.

MacLachlan’s form has continued into the second half of the campaign, the 23-year-old racking up 18 touches in a competitive effort against top four outfit Melbourne in round eight.

In the case of Adams, consistency has been key in year two.

Still just 19 years of age, she kicked off the year with a bang to register 17 touches in a win over the GIANTS and played a key role in the side’s hot start to the season.

Adams’ tackling and composure with ball in hand has often seen her play beyond her years against more experienced opponents at the level.

Adams has filled in a slew of different roles in her two seasons to date – drafted as an inside midfielder, taking on lockdown roles in defence and even hitting the scoreboard on a couple of occasions in her debut season.

“We’re big on versatility and that’s exactly what Maggie and Chloe provide for us. It’s great to have them on board for next year,” AFLW Head of List and Recruiting Josh Moore said.

“For Maggie to come in as a replacement player and have that kind of impact as a regular senior performer has been terrific to see. We’re really impressed with how she’s tracking.

“Chloe’s super professional for such a young player and is willing to take on any role presented to her. She’s a natural leader and has plenty of upside still to come.

“We’re excited to see what they’ll both bring next year with another full pre-season.”
