Essendon’s AFLW program has been boosted by the re-signing of consistent defender Georgia Clarke.

Already contracted through 2026, the 25-year-old put pen to paper on an additional year, shoring up the defensive stocks of a side that also recently acquired Adelaide star Zoe Prowse in the Trade Period.

39 of Clarke’s 54 career games have come in the sash since moving across from Geelong ahead of 2023, where she’s become one of the most durable performers in a developing Dons outfit.

Clarke is yet to miss a game for the Bombers in three seasons, highlighted by a breakout and career-best campaign in 2024 that led to a third-place finish in the Club’s Best and Fairest.

The versatile back averaged 13 disposals per game in 2025, with her best performance coming from a 21-touch effort against the Dees in round eight. She also slotted a first Essendon major with a ripping boundary line goal against Richmond during Dreamtime in Darwin.

Clarke is rapt to be remaining a Don for the next two seasons.

“I’ve had an unbelievable time in my three years here and the decision to re-sign was really straightforward,” Clarke said.

“I love playing with such a tight-knit group. There’s a lot of confidence that we’ll keep improving and bring success to the Club in the near future, and I’m hell bent on being part of that.

“Our back six is really solid and it’s been awesome to lock down a spot in there. We’re keen to be back in front of the faithful at Windy Hill and make next season one to remember.”

Fresh off a successful draft and trade period, AFLW Head of List and Recruiting Josh Moore is buoyed by Clarke’s re-signing.

“’GC’ has been such a consistent player for us, it’s big to have her locked in for the next two seasons,” Moore said.

“She has a calming presence on the ground for us and is a very popular character around the group. With a lot of young players coming through the doors recently, she’s been great for those girls also.

“We’re all excited to see ‘GC' doing her thing on the last line of defence for another couple of seasons.”
