A busy Friday morning greeted the Dons at the NEC Hangar, with a 60-minute match simulation played in warm conditions as preparations for the season continued to ramp up.

With teams rotating throughout, the contest stayed tight until the final moments. It was Nate Caddy who proved the difference, clunking a late mark and calmly converting the match-winning goal after the siren.

Young brigade show their talent

Archie Roberts continues to grow, with the third-year accumulator finding plenty of the footy as the session wore on.

When the heat came late, Roberts stood tall, helping lead the Black team’s charge with composure and strong decision-making.

Rhys Unwin provided plenty of spark, using his pace and dash to break lines and convert multiple opportunities inside 50, while Archer Day-Wicks brought his customary pressure, applying tackles and harassing defenders all morning.

Up forward, tall pair Archie May and Liam McMahon again proved a dangerous one-two punch, presenting strongly and finishing their work to cap off another productive outing.

Zak Johnson and Jayden Nguyen held firm down back alongside draftee Jacob Farrow, each playing their role in defence with competitiveness and composure.

Experience leading the way

Brayden Fiorini has wasted little time settling into life in the red and black, with the winger’s voice and leadership evident throughout the session.

Mason Redman was equally vocal behind the ball, organising teammates and driving several rebounding chains, while Darcy Parish continued his strong pre-season form with sharp clearance work and bursts forward from stoppage.

Zach Merrett and Sam Durham were influential as ever around the centre bounces, combining their strength and work rate to control territory.

Inside 50, Kyle Langford presented strongly and looked a reliable target, while Peter Wright showcased his aerial strength and set-shot routine to finish cleanly.

What’s next

The Bombers will continue building in the coming weeks ahead of their next match simulation hit-out against Richmond at the NEC Hangar on Friday, February 20, as preparations for the season gather momentum towards the Rd1 clash against the Hawks on 13 March.
