An overcast morning was the perfect stage for today’s match simulation at the NEC Hangar, with a four-quarter hit out played at high intensity ahead of next week’s practice match against Richmond.

Split into an A and B side, the Dons provided some notable performances, with both emerging talent and established names making strong statements as pre-season preparations continue to build.

Forwards fire and aerial presence

Nate Caddy’s aerial dominance was a major feature of the hit out. The athletic forward showcased his reach and timing inside 50, clunking strong marks and finishing his work on the scoreboard. His ability to compete for the ball at its highest point repeatedly created scoring opportunities.

Archie May continued his strong pre-season form, competing fiercely in the air and at ground level. His work rate was highlighted by a powerful chase-down effort on Ben McKay, underlining his defensive pressure to go with his goal sense. Liam McMahon was equally impressive, throwing himself into contests and creating multiple inside-50 opportunities, including a long-range finish right on the 50-metre arc.

Peter Wright showcased his aerial strength and composure in front of goal, while Kyle Langford combined clean decision-making with calm finishing to add polish to the forward line.

Intriguing battle through the middle

Rhys Unwin’s pace was a constant weapon, breaking lines and providing run and carry throughout the session. Saad El-Hawli similarly caught the eye with his speed across the ground, giving his side valuable drive on the outside.

Sam Durham powered through tackles with strength and determination, fighting hard at stoppages and helping propel the ball forward. Jye Caldwell found space with clever movement and burst, while Darcy Parish was involved in a slick chain of play alongside Langford and Brayden Fiorini that resulted in a polished team goal.

Strength in the contest

Lachie Blakiston was influential in the ruck, giving his midfielders first use and asserting himself around stoppages. Vigo Visentini also had his moments, producing a towering spoil over the boundary in a strong defensive effort.

Dyson Sharp impressed with his strong hands in traffic, while Max Kondogiannis displayed clean handling and smart decision-making under pressure.

Defensive composure

Kayle Gerreyn showed promising signs with his positioning and competitiveness in key defensive moments.

Jaxon Prior’s involvements were impactful, while Matt Guelfi brought convincing fight and intensity whenever the contest tightened.

Archie Roberts continued his strong pre-season, working tirelessly and contributing consistently across the session.

The Bombers now look ahead to their first practice match against Richmond at the NEC Hangar on Friday, February 20, as they edge closer to round one against the Hawks at the MCG.
