Essendon is inviting its faithful to be part of a special pre-game moment in its mammoth season opener against Hawthorn.

The 60-second countdown to the opening ball up will reintroduce the Club’s iconic scarf wave for the first time in 2026, with three legends to kick off proceedings and hype up the Bomber army.

Kevin Sheedy - the pioneer of the scarf (or jacket) wave’s intrinsic attachment to the Club from that famous late win over West Coast in 1993 – will be joined by his Premiership Captain Terry Daniher and three-time flag winning defender Mark Harvey in leading the charge from the stands.

The scarf wave will again become a focal point of the pre-game build-up at the Club’s home fixtures in 2026, channelling legends of the past and owning a movement directly associated with Essendon.

Bring your lucky scarf or retro jacket to the ‘G and get ready for a spine-tingling moment in our opener against fierce rivals Hawthorn – get to your seats early and don’t miss a second of the action.
