Essendon VFL went down to Collingwood by 11 points in a high-scoring Anzac Round clash at the KGM Centre.
The 17.12 (114) to 15.13 (103) result was in single digits at every change going into the last, with the Pies ultimately getting over the line in booting the final three goals of the game.
Tempo fluctuated often throughout the second and third terms - the Bombers opened up a three-goal buffer at one stage before the Pies responded on either side of the break with six unanswered of their own.
Huss El Achkar’s return after missing last week due to illness was a major highlight - the livewire forward finished with 4.3 and constantly created a spark for his side.
He was supported by Liam McMahon (three goals) as well as Jayden Nguyen, Matt Guelfi and Jared Eckersley (two goals each).
Will Setterfield was strong early with a 20-disposal opening half, while Jackson Hately (28), Kristian Ferronato (26 and a goal) and Zak Johnson (24) were other prominent ball winners.
Nik Cox continues to show good form up forward, slotting a goal and clunking seven marks from his 19 disposals, while Archie Perkins (24 disposals) is piecing together a nice stint with more midfield time.
The Bombers are back at Windy Hill for the first time in 2026 next week when they face Williamstown.
