There is no better time in the home and away season to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of one of the club’s greatest days.

Next year marks two decades since Essendon’s remarkable Grand Final victory over Melbourne to secure the 2000 premiership flag, and it will see the many key players in that success come together again to look back on that sensational side.

It was a side that lost only once that year, trouncing team after team on its way to an almighty finals campaign.

The star-studded line-up proved too good on the main stage, racing away from the Demons to record a scintillating 60-point win and cement its position among the most dominant teams in footballing history.

The club will celebrate that special occasion when the Bombers clash with Melbourne at the MCG in round seven and it is a game red and black fans will not want to miss.

Not only does the upcoming match hold sentimental value, it also sets up as another terrific contest between two clubs hungry for success.

This year’s meeting between the teams didn’t disappoint, seeing 38 goals kicked on the hallowed turf in a shootout reminiscent of the times of old.

Essendon emerged victorious by 18 points in what proved to be an important win claiming its first premiership points of the year, and in doing so the Bombers delivered another early dagger to Melbourne’s ultimately disappointing season.

With both teams looking to shoot further up the ladder in 2020 and emotions running high from the 2000 premiership reunion, this is sure to be one cracking game.

Stay tuned for more information on the milestone celebration.
