Archie May is set to undergo surgery in the coming weeks after suffering a dislocated shoulder early in the Round 12 match against West Coast.
The young Bomber sustained bone and ligament damage in the first-quarter marking contest, with the injury requiring a period of immobilisation to allow the bone to heal prior to surgery. The surgery is expected to take place in four to five week's time.
Unfortunately, the injury will sideline May for the remainder of the 2026 season, however he is expected to be available for the start of pre-season.
General Manager of Football, Daniel McPherson said the Club was disappointed for May especially given the promising start he had made to the year.
“It’s disappointing for Archie. He has shown some really encouraging signs throughout the first half of the season,” McPherson said.
“He has worked incredibly hard to establish himself at AFL level and was building some strong momentum in his development. The fundamentals of his game are strong, and he is a fierce competitor - good foundations on which to build a solid AFL career.
“This injury is obviously a setback, but we know he’ll attack his rehab in the right way, and return for pre-season in great shape to set himself up for a really strong 2027.”
Further details on May’s rehab and recovery will be provided in the coming weeks.
