The Essendon Football Club is proud to announce that Maddison Gay has signed a contract extension, committing to the red and black until at least the end of 2029.
Gay began her AFLW career with Carlton in 2018 before joining Melbourne, where she played from 2019 to 2023. The experienced defender arrived at Essendon ahead of the 2024 season and will now remain at the Club for at least the next three years.
While her 2025 campaign was unfortunately curtailed by a knee injury sustained during pre-season, Gay enjoyed a stellar 2024 season, claiming Essendon’s Best and Fairest award after averaging 19 disposals and 15 kicks per game.
The extension caps off a memorable day for Gay, with the AFLW also announcing her selection in the Australian team for the historic representative match against Ireland in August.
AFLW List and Recruiting Manager Josh Moore said Gay’s re-signing was a significant result for the Club.
“Maddi has had a tremendous impact since arriving at Essendon, both through her on-field performance and the leadership she brings to our program,” Moore said.
“She’s an important part of what we’re building, and we’re delighted to have her commit to the Club for the next three seasons.”
Gay said she was excited to continue her journey in the red and black.
“This Club has become a second home for me over the past few years and I’m excited about what we can achieve together in the years ahead," Gay said.
"My family are Bomber supporters so it has been an absolute joy seeing them involved in the Club as well.
“With the talent we have across the group and the direction we’re heading, I can’t wait to keep contributing and chasing success with this team.”
