Jaxon Prior will remain a Bomber in 2027 after penning a one-year contract extension this week.
Only missing one game since his Club debut and taking his career tally to 77, the 25-year-old has been a mainstay in the Bombers line-up, willingly taking on tough matchups and giving a strong account of himself.
In his seventh year at the highest level, the son of 90-gamer Michael has been valiant in the back half, with his season-best outing against Carlton (22 disposals, eight marks, six intercepts) steadying up the defence in one of their best efforts since Gather Round.
Prior is averaging a career-high 16 touches, five marks and 308 metres gained per game this season, floating between lockdown roles and occasionally pushing up the ground in support as a winger.
Prior is looking forward to 2027 and a new phase for the Bombers in their development.
"I absolutely love this footy club and the resilience that’s been shown by all. No doubt it's been a challenging period for everyone involved but I'm so excited for the future,” Prior said.
"The young talent we have coming through is special, and the desire they have to work hard every single day is what's going to drive us forward.
"Having the opportunity to be a part of the next phase for this club is something I'm extremely grateful and passionate about. Although our on-field results haven't been there, the foundation is being built around standards and work ethic day-to-day.
"Hopefully I can play a small role in getting this club back to the top of the tree."
Essendon’s General Manager – List and Recruiting Matt Rosa is excited for Prior to sign on next season.
“Jacko’s become an important member of our group with his on and off-field impact, since starting as an SSP signing at the end of 2024,” Rosa said.
“He provides a great deal of versatility in different roles and has established himself as a strong voice in our group. His commitment to play his role for the team and help those around him will continue to be important moving forward."
“We’re stoked to have Jaxon sign on for another year.”
