Essendon is proud to announce the total donation tally from this years Challenge game, with the Clubs partnership raising $83,033.80 collectively.

The partnership with Challenge continues to make a meaningful difference for children and families facing childhood cancer. In the lead up to the annual fixture at Marvel Stadium, the Club alongside Challenge brought together players, staff and official partners in support.

Funds were raised through ticketing donations, Club partners, a player match-worn Guernsey auction which amassed more than $32,000, huge contributions from Yakult and the AFL Player’s Association, as well as donations from Essendon supporters and the wider community.

The funds directly support programs and services that provide comfort, connection and practical assistance to children undergoing treatment and their families.

Once again, Essendon’s AFL playing group donated the entirety of its $10,000 AFLPA player charity grant to Challenge. Kyle Langford said the playing group were proud to continue supporting Challenge through the AFLPA donation.

Challenge holds a special place in the hearts of every player on our list, Langford said.

One of the absolute joys of playing for this Club is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of these children and their families. Were fortunate to play in a lot of special games and this sits right at the very top. So many of our players over the years have established beautiful connections with these families through the partnership that continue to endure.

"We’re grateful to play a small role in putting some much-needed smiles on the faces of kids who need it most. Having them around us in the team song was just the cherry on top."

In the lead-up to the Round 19 Challenge Game, Essendon players and staff visited children and families in hospital, took part in a banner making session and a slumber party night, and even hosted their mascots at Captain's Run - each presenting their player with a drawing and hand-written letter to say thank you on behalf of their families.

This year’s match was further strengthened by the launch of the 2026 Challenge Jumper, which honoured the legacy of former Bomber Adam Ramanauskas, whose battles with cancer inspired Essendon’s original Call to Arms campaign.

For the first time in the Club’s history, player numbers were changed from the traditional white to Challenge yellow - a symbol of Essendon’s commitment to the fight against childhood cancer.

Every single match-worn and player-issued Guernsey available for auction was sold.

Essendon Football Club CEO Tim Roberts said the Challenge Game remained one of the Club’s most important community initiatives.

Our partnership with Challenge has become an essential piece of the Clubs identity, Roberts said.

“We hold so much pride in what we’ve been able to achieve over the two decades dating back to ‘Rama’s fight.

“It’s a massive credit to everyone involved with both Challenge and Essendon, whether it’s the staff, volunteers, players or most importantly those putting their hands up to support the families affected.

“Our Community team has also done an incredible job in facilitating the children's experiences over the past month."

Challenge CEO David Rogers said the partnership with Essendon continued to deliver meaningful outcomes for families impacted by childhood cancer.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the result of this year’s Challenge Game,” Rogers said.

While the auction results and the total funds raised are massive for us going forward in supporting the kids, what its really about is the collaboration, the connection, and the experiences that the families will be able to hold onto.

For those kids, that afternoon of the Challenge Game will remain one of the best days of their lives. Every year, its a reminder of what our partnership can accomplish.

We thank everyone who donated and every person involved in this years iteration - we look forward to whats ahead.
