Archie Perkins has agreed to a one-year extension with Essendon to see him through to the end of 2027.

The 117-gamer’s signature continues a recent run of retention for the Bombers, who also secured more of their uncontracted talent in Rhys Unwin and Will Setterfield for next season.

Perkins enjoyed an improved run at senior level in the middle of 2026, rebounding well from his stint in the VFL and recapturing some of the form he’s capable of at his best.

The 24-year-old marked his return against the GIANTS in round nine with a stirring running goal and 19 disposals with more time spent up the ground.

In the final three weeks of the campaign, Perkins was utilised more often as a third forward, jagging a couple of goals against Geelong and looking threatening in the final home-and-away outing against Port Adelaide.

General Manager of List and Recruiting Matt Rosa expects Perkins to provide spark in a young Bombers’ squad next season.

“It’s great for Archie to sign on for another year,” Rosa said.

“We think he’s got plenty of upside for us and is still capable of elevating and adding more layers to his game in future.

“His response in the second half of this year was really positive. Archie offers us a dynamic forward target at his size and has the potential to provide some experience and physical strength to our midfield mix.

“At 24, his best footy is still ahead of him and we’re excited to see what that looks like after a big pre-season.”
