Essendon has secured experienced midfielder Jack Bowes in a trade with Geelong.
The Bombers receive Bowes, Geelong’s 2027 first-round pick and its 2028 second-round pick in exchange for Jordan Ridley, pick No.60 and Essendon’s 2028 fourth-round pick.
Bowes arrives at the NEC Hangar with 152 games of AFL experience across 10 seasons with Gold Coast and Geelong, adding experience and versatility to the Bombers’ midfield mix.
Originally selected with pick No.10 in the 2016 National Draft, the 28-year-old featured in 43 of a possible 51 games across 2024 and 2025 as an important member of a strong Geelong side.
Bowes featured deep into September in both seasons, including a Grand Final appearance in 2025, while also proving a valuable option forward with 28 goals across the two campaigns.
At 189cm, Bowes adds another strong body to Essendon’s midfield group and brings valuable experience to a young Bombers list.
“Jack has played 152 games, been part of two deep finals campaigns with Geelong and played in a Grand Final. He gives us another experienced body through the midfield to support our young group, and he’s someone who really wanted to come to the Bombers,” Rosa said.
“We’re in a phase where bringing in young talent is the priority. We hold picks No.1, 15, 19 and 25 in a draft we love this year, and adding Geelong’s first-round pick means we’ll have two first-round selections next year as well.
“Combined with experienced players like Jack, it puts us in a position to continue building a strong Essendon team.”
The Club is delighted to welcome Jack, his wife Jasmine and their son Charlie to the Essendon family.
