Essendon  defender David Myers has staked his claim for the team to take on the Brisbane Lions this week after an impressive performance for the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL on Saturday

Myers, who fractured his wrist in Essendon's five-point loss to the Sydney Swans in round two, was Bendigo's best player in its 66-point win over the Werribee Tigers.

Bendigo coach Shannon Grant said it was an encouraging performance by Myers, and the side as a whole, against an in-form opposition.

''We knew they'd be a pretty good side, and they had been in some pretty good form, so it was probably our most complete game we've had so far. It was also the hardest we've had to work to win a game, and our pressure and intensity around the footy, even late in the fourth quarter, was tremendous,'' Grant said.

''The way David prepares and approaches his footy is first-class, and I'm sure he'll be in the mix this week. He's certainly a player who has come straight in and got some great touch playing in the midfield and down back. His leadership and the way he helps the younger blokes around him is great,'' he said.

''He's a very handy player to have, whether he's playing through the middle or down back. It's always good to have a bit of versatility about your game.''

Brent Prismall continued his strong form in the VFL, while the speedy Travis Colyer, who played 11 senior games last year, chipped in with three goals in the win.

''They were both really good again, and those two have been great all season. The good thing with 'Pris' is that he's really working hard and he's working himself into good form. He'll certainly be one of the others in the mix this week as well,'' Grant said.

The form of 19-year-old Jake Carlisle has been another positive for Grant, with Carlisle's move to defence branded a success so far.

''He obviously hasn't played a lot of football down back, but his last month or so he's continued to get better. I think it's always good for young forwards to be able to go down the other end and learn how to defend as well. It helps their overall game and helps them become a more rounded player,'' Grant said.

Bendigo, now sitting third on the ladder, will aim to extend its four-game winning streak when it meets the fifth-placed Casey Scorpions at Casey Fields on Sunday at 2pm.
