The Essendon Football Club is delighted to announce James Hird's elevation to Legend status in the Club’s prestigious Hall Of Fame.

Hird’s incredible playing career saw the champion win five best and fairest medals at Essendon and the Brownlow Medal in 1996 as a dual winner with Brisbane’s Michael Voss.

James Hird is ranked the third best player in the club’s history and led Essendon as captain to the 2000 Premiership.

He retired after 253 games with a Brownlow medal, two premiership medals, five club best and fairest awards and a lifetime legion of fans.

The Hall of Fame Induction, held at Crown Palladium on March 15, will see Hird inducted as a Club Legend and three former players to be inducted as members.

Hird becomes just the 21st player or official in the Club's history to be inducted as a Club Legend and said he was extremely humbled by the elevation.

“It’s very humbling and I am deeply honoured. The Essendon Football Club has been such a huge part of my life.”

“To be recognised in the Hall of Fame alongside so many champions of this great club is a real honour,"" Hird said.

The Hall of Fame Induction and 2011 Season Launch will be held on March 15 at Crown Palladium from 6.30pm. Tickets are still available for Essendon’s major event of the year.
