General Manager of Football Operations Paul Hamilton said it was disappointing to lose Hurley ahead of Saturday’s game against Port Adelaide.

“Given Michael’s recent good form it’s disappointing to lose him at this point of the season,” Hamilton said.

“Because of his history with these issues, we think he will miss up to three weeks.”

Hamilton also clarified the injury concern to Kyle Reimers, who did not suffer from concussion after a heavy knock on the weekend as widely reported.

“At no stage was Kyle concussed and he can fully recall the incident,” Hamilton said.

“He was concerned about his sore neck and copped a heavy knock to his eye, but if he had of suffered from concussion there is no way our doctors would have kept him on the ground.”

2011 Crichton Medallist David Zaharakis looks set to be sidelined for the next three to four weeks with a quad injury after suffering a setback in his recovery regime.

“David is stepping up his program but he recently felt some soreness, so we have had to modify his regimes which only puts him back a couple of weeks,” Hamilton said.

“We will have to be patient, but we look forward to welcoming him back because he is an extremely important player for the club.”

Essendon veteran Mark McVeigh is likely to make his return to the field this week through the VFL, after overcoming a knee injury.

“We expect Spike (McVeigh) to be back this week which is particularly pleasing.” Hamilton said.

“I imagine his return will be via the VFL, but nonetheless I know he is very excited to be back out on the park.”

Hamilton said a number of players were in line for selection this week, as the Bombers will take on Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

“Tom Bellchambers, Elliott Kavanagh and Travis Colyer will all be in line for selection this week. All three were key contributors to Bendigo’s win on the weekend and Travis was dynamic through the midfield so I expect the trio to be putting their hands up,"" he said.

“Gumby (Scott Gumbleton) has now played a number of games in the VFL too so you have to say from a fitness point of view, he is ready to go but it will be up to the selectors.”
