Rob Mitchell MP, Federal Member for McEwen in northern Melbourne, has praised Essendon Football Club for its contribution to the local community.

Mitchell spoke in parliament on Thursday, acknowledging the work the club has done in engaging with the strong Indian community of the region through the Hume Bombers Football Club.

“I want to give an absolute shout out to the Essendon Football Club for their fantastic work in the community,” Mitchell said.

“The Hume Bombers is one of a kind in Australia, recognised by the AFL as an innovative model bringing diverse communities together to share in Australia’s greatest pastime, Aussie Rules Football.

“The club is celebrating and embracing multiculturalism and diversity through sport and bringing our community together in such fantastic teams. “

The Hume Bombers have grown exponentially since an Auskick program was established in 2012 through the support of Essendon, fielding two all-Indian junior teams in the Essendon District Football League in 2018.

The club’s strong relationship with the community continues to grow, not just through the Hume Bombers, but also through the development of Essendon’s annual Embracing India Game and a number of special events and clinics.
