Essendon champion Simon Madden is one of the four club legends to be up for nomination as the next player to be honoured on the club’s 2014-15 heritage guernsey.

Madden played a club record 378 games (currently equal with Dustin Fletcher) between 1974-92.

A supreme athlete with huge stature Madden would constantly soar above the packs to take highflying marks.

He booted 575 goals playing as a forward/ruckman throughout his illustrious career.

His leadership abilities stood out from a young age, captaining the Bombers for two seasons in 1980-81 at just 22.

Madden was a big stage performer, winning two premierships with the red and black in 1984-85 including the Norm Smith Medal for best on ground in the 1985 victory.

Regarded by many as one of the best ruckman in the game’s history he won four best and fairest awards, has been named in Essendon’s Team of the Century and is an inductee of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Madden played his last game for the club in round 22, 1992 against Geelong at Waverley Park, also Terry Daniher’s final game.
