Essendon struggled with accuracy in front of goals, but was otherwise untroubled to defeat Richmond at the MCG this afternoon. A healthy crowd of 77,576 saw the Bombers dispatch the Tigers by 46 points. Essendon was excellent through midfield and had winners all over the ground, but caught the disease of inaccuracy in the first term (4.10) and never really recovered, finishing with 16.24 to Richmond’s 10.14.Skipper James Hird, Paul Barnard and Blake Caracella were excellent and Lloydy kicked four goals, but there will be some concern over knee injuries to Steve Alessio and Mark Mercuri.
