Essendon’s match committee will have close to a full list to choose from when it meets to select the line-up for Saturday’s game against Melbourne.

The Club got through the opening home and away match and a VFL practice game with no fresh injuries.

The Bombers clash with Gold Coast was the first time the side has played under the new interchange cap.

The rule change restricts the number of rotations each team can make to 90.

“We ended up having 83 rotations for the game – I don’t think we want to get too close to 90 in case we need a couple right at the end,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.

“Players need to get used to spending five to six minutes on the bench instead of the shorter break (three to four minutes).

“The key thing there is to take their time to talk to their Line Coach, rehydrate, reload and give us some real intensity when they get back on the ground.”

One man who could join the rotation this weekend is Jayden Laverde.

The second year player got through a VFL practice match on the weekend on his road back from an ankle injury.

“Jayden got through as planned,” Crow said.

“We finished him up some time during the third quarter and we’ll look to keep progressing his fitness and his game time over the next week or so.”
