Camp mastermind John Quinn said it was a tough week in Cann River but the camp achieved the objectives that were set out. ""The camp was never going to be easy - it was always going to challenge the players physically and mentally and I think we achieved that. We wanted to take the players out of their comfort zone and see how they reacted in certain situations.
""I think the main benefits of the camp are yet to be seen and they will evolve in time. It was a fantastic team building week and it gave everyone including the coaches the opportunity to re-focus for the season ahead,"" Quinn said. The players all returned to Melbourne exhausted from the challenging week that involved hikes, bike riding and participation in different group activities, but Quinn expects the players to be rejuvenated for training this week.
One of the things that impressed Quinn the most was the attitude of the four draftees - Kepler Bradley, Brent Stanton, Jay Nash and Ricky Dyson. All four participated in all physical challenges and were keen to be involved in all of the activities.
The players recommenced their normal pre-season schedule this morning at Windy Hill, which involves a weights session and speed training this afternoon. The Cann River training camp is a testament to how hard the players are working in preparation for the 2004 season.
