Dean Solomon was a solid performer for the Bombers in 2003, according to Essendon fans. Supporters felt his contribution was excellent considering he missed last season with a knee injury. Essendon assistant Robert Shaw said Solomon showed he had the capacity to be a part of the midfield rotation.

Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Dean had a remarkable year considering he came off a knee reconstruction and we put the added pressure of putting him in the mid-field. He played a lot more wing, half-forward and mid-field, which was really good for his development. It took its toll because in the second half of the year he suffered from nagging groin injuries, which didn't help his running capacity. He did play some outstanding games in the mid-field, which was a real positive for Dean and for us that we were able to take him off the half-back flank and put him in the mid-field.

What some of fan’s had to say:
""A great return in 2003 after serious injury. We missed his toughness around the half back to centre area the previous year. A key player for the Dons hopefully we will retain him as the best of Dean is yet to be scene,"" Edward Cane.

""A great start to the year but did taper off as the year went. Best suited as an accountable backman and not a midfielder or forward. A crucial missed goal against Port in the final was very costly."" Brett Geddes

""He had a excellent season after coming back from a career threatning injury. He showed just how important he is to the side and looking forward to seeing him play next season."" Tim Bristow

""It was good to see Solly bounce back this year after missing 2002. His first half of the season was magnificent and unfortunately his second half was weakend due to a slight injury. Can't wait to see him play next year."" Cory Rattraywood.

""Was happy with his year. Will be very unhappy if we lose him although I did feel that his kicks in front of goal let him down."" Shane Pinto.

""Solomon played reasonably well this year. Although he wasn't bad when experimented with in the forward line, he is definately a back-man. His good aggression and determination are also mentionable."" Tom Ickeringill.

""Solomon's toughness was much needed in the team, his hardness at the ball and intimidation factor is second to none. He's abilty to beat an oponenent one-on-one through hardeness is awesome. his a gun."" Matthew Barrett.

""Yeah I think Solomon had a pretty good year. But it doesn't matter anyway. He's got rid of us and moved on to another club just for the money."" Mitchell Darvey.
