Following last night's loss to Geelong the news hasn't gotten any better today for the Bombers on the injury front.
Alwyn Davey was operated on last night to repair a fractured humurus (upper arm).
While the operation was decribed as successful he will miss the next eight weeks but could be back for the finals should the Bombers take part.
He is expected to be released from hospital tonight or tomorrow morning.
James Hird will miss between two to four weeks with a strained calf and will undergoing testing this week to assess the injury.
Paddy Ryder is expected to miss the next two weeks with a strained achilles. He will also have more tests this week.
The news is better for first gamer Tom Hislop who suffered a corked upper leg but will be available to play next weekend.
Mark McVeigh and Dustin Fletcher were both reported for striking.
It was supposed to be a match to celebrate with James Hird playing his 250th, Adam Ramanauskas making his long-awaited return to AFL football and Tom Hislop on debut. However tonight’s blockbuster turned out to be a horror night for the Bombers, leaving Alwyn Davey, Patrick Ryder, Hird and Hislop injured, and Essendon searching for answers as an inspired Geelong unit claimed a 50-point victory.
