Essendon has had five Brownlow Medallists in its 130-year history and that number is unlikely to be increased at the 2002 count being held this evening. The Bombers have had a number of consistent performers throughout the course of the season but there has been no standout. But there will still be interest in just which Bomber will poll the most votes – we thought we should check with some of those in the know to find out who will win the 2002 Brownlow Medal and who will Essendon’s leading player at the end of the night.

The consensus among our panel was that Jason Johnson will clearly lead Essendon’s Brownlow Medal voting come night’s end. As far as second and third go, opinions vary. In terms of the overall winner, Ben Cousins (West Coast) and Paul Williams (Sydney) both rated very highly along with nominal favorite Luke Darcy.
