Essendon Football Club and the ACT Brumbies will complete three joint training sessions in Melbourne next week.
The Brumbies our one of the power club sides of world rugby union and a number of skills of their game apply to Australian Rules Football.
"They obviously do a lot of tackling and that is an area where we can learn from them," Essendon assistant coach Robert Shaw said.
"There are also some strength and conditioning aspects of their preparation which might prove useful and vice versa.
"This is just another way we look at trying to improve ourselves. Last year we visited Manchester United and now we are seeing what we can glean from training with one of the greatest rugby union sides in the world.
"There are game stategies and team formations we also want to talk to them about but that is not the sort of thing we would comment on publicly."
The first combined training session will be held on Wednesday, November 22nd at Essendon Grammar where fitness coach John Quinn will a speed session. This session will commence at 4.00pm.
The second session will involve skills training at Windy Hill the following morning commencing at 10.00am.
