It is cut-throat time in the Champions of Essendon with second round voting commencing last week. John Birt is the latest inductee into the final 25, with Percy Ogden, Ernest Cameron and Frank Maher being omitted. This week's group asks you to decide between another four Essendon greats - Leon Baker, Harold Lambert, John McKenzie and Neale Daniher. <a href=""/champions"">Your vote</a> helps determine which player will be named a Champion and which three will be omitted.
While the four games in the first half of the split round were very close, the results in the second half of the round proved more decisive. The biggest winners were Port Adelaide - which moved to the top of the ladder for the first time in its history - and the resurgent Western Bulldogs. The Doggies, who lost their first five matches of the season, have moved into the eight with a fifth straight victory.
