Kevin Sheedy said Bomber supporters can expect to see a much improved Essendon performance against Richmond this Friday night. He agreed his side did not play well against Geelong and cited the number of turn-overs as a main reason for the poor result. Sheedy also remained positive about the team’s finals chances. “We are two points out of the top eight and we are probably in a better position than one third of the competition. I would rather be where we are at least than the teams behind us. We have got some players to come back and hopefully add a bit to this team,” Sheedy said.

“We didn't play well against Geelong and we will get better this week, make no mistake about that. There is a fair bit of pressure but the players know that - they have been there before. It has been a pretty tough draw from the point of view of night games and that sort of stuff. We will freshen them up this week and get ready for the Tigers Friday night.”

""We have been to three of the last three preliminary finals and two Grand Finals and have been a fairly exciting side and probably won about 80% of our matches. To see the team only win eight and a half games at the moment is a bit different. But the season is not over - we have six matches to go. I don't why everyone wants to have a party on our demise at the moment because we are two points out of the eight. We have a lot of hard work to do and we have got the talent to possibly fire up and ignite a few people and we should do that,"" Sheedy said.

Q. It has been 87 weeks since you have been out of the top eight and some might say it was a fitting performance to drop out of the eight - because it was your worst in that time. Do you think that is a fair comment?
A. Probably so. I think our turn-overs hurt us a hell of a lot. Our turn-overs quite often were from players by themselves. If we could get some of these guys to hit their targets, we probably would have had another six or seven goals.

Q. Do some of the senior players need to go back and find the footy?
A. Probably some could - it is whether we hang in there for another week with them. It is a coaching and selection decision. The seconds played pretty well down at Geelong yesterday - so there are a couple of kids pushing for selection there. But, really we only have two players that haven't played AFL footy on our list. We have played nearly everyone this year on the list apart from Simon O'Keefe and Sam Hunt.

Q. Is there any chance that Joe Misiti will come straight in?
A. I don't think Joe should come straight back in. We are just getting through Hird and Lloyd being out for about nine weeks.

Q. Does Hird ever stop surprising you? He has been your best player in the last three weeks.
A. That is the freshness of being out for a while. The courage has been outstanding - there is no doubt about that.

Q. Will Paul Salmon play this week?
A. Salmon may play this week.

Q. Is Fletcher right to go?
A. Well I hope so. We thought he was playing last week until a late call and that was it.

Q.The greatest criticism has been of the mid-field in recent weeks - are you going to persevere with the existing group?
A. I am not sure if you bring in mid-field players from the seconds, they will do any better.

Q. How bad is Barnard?
A. He should be right.

Q. Where are you greatest concerns at the moment?
A. I think I will wait another week or two.
