Essendon and Geelong will officially kick off the 2020 Powercor Country Festival during their Marsh Community Series clash in Colac on Labour Day.

In the lead-up to the 4:40pm bounce at the Australian Lamb Company Stadium (Central Reserve Colac), fans attending the game can enjoy a mini-festival on the hockey fields surrounding the ground, with activities for kids, a petting zoo and market stalls among the attractions.

A curtain raiser will also begin at 1:20pm between the Bombers’ and Cats’ VFL sides, making for an action-packed afternoon in the bustling regional city.

Now in its fifth year, the Powercor Country Festival aims to highlight the role regional and rural Victorians play in the fabric of Australian life, with a specific focus on recognising and thanking the amazing work of volunteers in regional communities.

Culminating in the annual blockbuster Country Game between Essendon and Geelong on Saturday, May 9 at the MCG, this year’s festival will have added significance, given the bushfire crisis that engulfed Australia over summer.
