Members and supporters of the Essendon, Hawthorn and Carlton football clubs are the big winners under a new partnership with energy supplier AGL.

The deal, which was announced this afternoon, sees the Australian Gaslight Company (AGL) become the exclusive energy sponsor of all three clubs.

As a direct partnership with each club, the deal is not only of financial benefit to Essendon, Hawthorn and Carlton but it also ensures members and supporters of these three clubs can access fantastic benefits.

So what is in this for the fans?

Members and supporters of Essendon, Hawthorn and Carlton have the opportunity to make significant savings on their energy bills and will not be required to join a club to benefit.

This offer is bigger and better than that other suppliers are currently offering AFL supporters. The AGL offer provides club members with $200 of value for members and supporters and the opportunity to take part in 'money can't buy experiences'. Details on how fans can access this offer will be forwarded shortly. Supporters who are not members should register with their club to be sure of receiving the offer.

""All three clubs are always looking to strike deals that benefit both the club and its members and supporters,"" Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson said. ""This deal does exactly that and I’m sure our fans will take advantage of it.""

AGL General Manager Victoria, Mr Tony Beach said the company is delighted with the partnership and looks forward to working closely with the club coaches, team members and supporters.

""In recent years, AGL has extended its operations into the Victorian market and so its only fitting that we forge long term partnerships with the state's footy icons,"" Mr Beach said.

AGL is also expected to provide club venues with access to energy efficiency programs, which make a positive contribution to the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr Beach said the new football partnership with AGL, should provide the right energy boost in the lead up to this season.

This is the first time AGL has entered into a partnership agreement with clubs within the AFL.

With more than 3.1 million customers, AGL is the country's largest energy retailer providing both gas and electricity services to both residential and commercial customers.

The company is also one of the oldest companies in Australia and was first established to light the streets of Sydney with gaslight in 1837.
