Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
Marc Bullen decided he wanted to make it and he is a classic example of a player that came to us and said - 'I want to make it, what do I need to do?' One week later he was in the side. He has some areas to work on - he needs to get himself as fit as Ben Cousins because he is not a big lad. He has got physically stronger and he has got all the heart and commitment that you want. He has a burst of speed and he is a hungry and committed kid, so he is half-way there.
What some of fan’s had to say:
Marc did well to establish himself in the side once he got his chance. Played some impressive games, although he did fall away a bit towards the end of the year. However he did prove he's worth a place in the best 22 when playing well, so hopefully he can build on that next year and work on his consistency. Shane King
One of the big improvers at the club this year. Rewarded with a Norwich Rising Star nomination and improved from there. Big season coming up. David Parasol
He showed that you don’t need to be muscle bound to play AFL but Marc shows he has class pace and very evasive skills. I think and hope he will be a leader with us in a few years. Graham Pritchard
Still has a lot of development to go, but I believe he was a great asset for Essendon in 2003. I think 2004 will be the time that Marc Bullen shines. Trent Hobson
He really came on this year. Always seemed to try hard and by the end of the year seemed to have cemented a spot in the side. He will need to continue to work and build up his strength, because there are others knocking on the door. David Street
Has overcome injuries to show ability as a run with player who may develop into a midfielder. John Harink
Started his career slowly, but has really started to hit his straps. A great 2003 should be followed by a huge 2004, potential star. Michael Wyres
I think a view was shared amongst many Essendon supporters that Marc Bullen's development was sensational in 2003. He finally managed to squeeze out nearly the whole season, which was a phenomenal performance in comparison to previous years at the club. He deserved his Rising Star nomination and hopefully more great seasons are ahead for Marc. Samuel Wharton
Bullen really stepped up in 2003 and showed great skills. Hopefully he will give Essendon what he did this year in 2004. Hope to see more of Bullen next year! Josh Little
