The week is celebrated not just in the Indigenous community, but also in increasing numbers of government agencies, schools, local councils and workplaces.
To help celebrate NAIDOC Week, Essendon Football Club is holding a number of activities - each planned by Nathan Lovett-Murray with assistance from the Community Affairs team.
Monday 9 July - Flag Raising Ceremony
More than 30 local Indigenous leaders took part in a visit to Windy Hill yesterday for a traditional flag raising ceremony followed by an afternoon tea in the Hall of Fame. The event was attended by a number of NAIDOC Committee members.
A permanent indigenous recognition plaque will also be fixed to the entrance of Windy Hill.
Wednesday 11 July - NAIDOC Flavour to Mosquito Fleet Clinic
Indigenous Sport and Recreation Victoria will be conducting a number of traditional indigenous games as part of the clinic activity rotation. Twenty Indigenous Kickstart youngsters will also participate in the day and a selection of traditional foods will be available.
The Mosquito Fleet Clinic will be held at Windy Hill from 10am to 1pm.
Thursday 12 July - EFC NAIDOC Dinner
A panel-style evening to be held at the social club will see all of our current indigenous players joined by Kevin Sheedy and former players Che Cockatoo-Collins and Dean Rioli for a night of reflection and celebration.
The night is SOLD OUT with just over 200 guests to be in attendance.
NAIDOC Dinner at the Premier Room, Windy Hill Venue (social club) will be held from 7:30pm - 10pm.
