“Football commentators have every right to give an opinion but they are obliged to do so in a fair and reasonable manner. Tony Shaw clearly over-stepped the mark on the weekend. He showed Dean Rioli a total lack of respect.
“For the record, this club is more than satisfied with the manner in which Dean Rioli has been managed by the football department. His fitness levels have improved in line with fitness department requirements and his form is moving in the same direction.
“This Club was initially not inclined to dignify Shaw’s comments with a response but felt compelled to defend both Dean and the club’s football department.”
