Injury and inconsistent form were the factors that led to a drop in the Bomber fan's rating of Ben Haynes in 2004. Haynes played 10 senior games in his second year at Windy Hill and while he showed glimpses of his best, his fan's report card said he needed to do more. Fan’s believe an injury free preparation this summer is crucial to his on-field success in 2005.

""Essendon fans were a bit disappointed with Ben's progress in 2004 after an exciting launch to his Bomber's career in 2003. 2005 is the year for Ben to step up and prove he is in our best side,"" Duncan Young

""Haynes has the talent but needs the time to show it. He has had game time but hasn’t used it wisely. Over time he will develop into a good player for the Bombers and I look forward to it,"" Adrian Lepore

""Great comeback after another horror start to the year breaking into the senior side after only two best on ground matches for Bendigo. Would like to see him given a better run in the midfield, as he seems to consistently find the football. If he does not get injured expect a big 2005 from Ben,"" John Connell

""Ben showed a lot of promise towards the end of last year, so it was a bit disappointing he wasn't able to really make a big impact this year. Hopefully we'll see more of him next year,"" Shane King

""A definite good effort considering injuries have limited his AFL experience in the last couple of years. I would like to see him get more game time, preferably as a running midfielder/small forward,"" Sonia Salera

""Didn't have the greatest season and was hoping for more out of Haynes. I did want more out of him because when he starts playing well it is very exciting,"" Sasha Andelkovic

""Haynes’ performance in 2004 was not up to the same standard as that produced in 2003. Hopefully a full pre-season might help him to establish himself again in 2005,"" Mike Eising

""Ben missed the first half of the season due to injury. His pace in the midfield was very much needed but still struggled through parts of his footy. A full season next year will hopefully make him a key part of the team,"" Laine Rice
