Newspaper reports on Wednesday indicated Lloyd, 31 and out of contract, was frustrated with the length of time it was taking for Knights to tell him if he was a required player for 2010.
The Bombers posted a statement on their club website that afternoon confirming the imminent meeting.
"Despite significant public interest and media comment surrounding the captain's decision, the club and Lloyd agreed mid-year to meet post-season as part of the player review and list management process and nothing has changed," general manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said.
Knights said in early August the decision of playing on would be left to each of the club's veteran players in Lloyd, Scott Lucas and Dustin Fletcher.
"I just need to sit down with those guys when the season is run and won, and we just have to talk about it. They're all professional, mature guys so we'll leave it until then and work out which way they're going," he said last month.
"Most importantly, those guys will have a big say, virtually all the say, in what they want to do because I think they deserve that right as being champions of the Essendon football club.
"They're going to play a big part in making that decision, depending on how they're feeling, how their bodies are going, whether they think they can make an impact for this team, and then where the group is headed."
Lucas retired two weeks later after being told his senior opportunities would be limited for the rest of the year.
Should Lloyd play on, he will start his 2010 home-and-away campaign in round four after being suspended in round 22 for a bump on Hawthorn's Brad Sewell.
