Round 9 kicked off on Friday night at The Dome when Collingwood took on Adelaide. It was a forgettable game, but Collingwood fans were happy when the team ended their six game losing streak. Chris Tarrant booted five goals in his team’s three-point victory.
Melbourne returned to the winner’s list this week after disposing of the Kangaroos by 18-points. Melbourne was in command all game thanks to the ruckwork of Jeff White. White finished with 27 hit-outs, 11 marks and collected 28 disposals. David Neitz also played a bit part in his side’s win – finishing with four goals.
Paul Medhurst had a day out yesterday at Subiaco. The small forward booted nine goals and was instrumental in Fremantle’s 49-point win over the Brisbane Lions. Fremantle was on top all game and extended the winning margin with a five goal to two final term. The victory pushes Fremantle up to fifth position, on equal points with Port Adelaide, Essendon and Brisbane.
Geelong ended Essendon’s six game winning streak at The Dome last night. Inaccurate kicking in the second term proved costly for the Bombers - they booted two goals and seven behinds. Kent Kingsley was unstoppable up the other end of the ground. He finished with seven goals and three of those were kicked in the first five minutes of the game. Geelong ran out victors by 23-points.
Port Adelaide bounced back from a 96-point defeat by the Kangaroos last week to beat Richmond by 78-points at AAMI Stadium. Chad Cornes dominated across half-back and collected 31-disposals. He had good support from Darryl Wakelin who took the honours on Matthew Richardson. After booting 10-goals last week, Wakelin held him to one goal.
The Western Bulldogs are celebrating their third win for the season tonight after overrunning Carlton by 25-points. Scores were level at half-time, but the Bulldogs kicked six goals to two in the second half. Jade Rawlings booted four goals and Mitch Hahn finished with three majors for the winning team.
St.Kilda continued their unbeaten run today at The Dome. The Saints were unstoppable on their home turf destroying West Coast by 101-points. Brent Guerra starred up forward and finished with seven goals. The Saints sit two games clear at the top of the ladder after winning their ninth successive match.
The Sydney Swans ended their four game losing streak today when they defeated Hawthorn by the smallest of margins. Sydney won by just one point in a heart stopper at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Jude Bolton was the hero of the victory after he booted the winning goal in his 100th game.
