Paul Barnard has been a solid contributor for the Bombers so far this season. He has primarily played in the forward line and kicked a brilliant opening goal against Adelaide last Friday night. The Engine Room team caught up with the premiership player this week to find out how he thinks the team is travelling so far this season.

“If you asked me the same questions two weeks ago I would have said in the cellars. We are going alright – we have won three out of four. We are second on the ladder – not that we like being second to Brisbane but we are. As everyone knows we have a few injuries but it looks like we will have Sean Wellman and Scott Lucas back next week – which is good news.

It is still pretty hard to get a kick in our forward line – I have been out-gunned by two multi-million dollar boys. So I am just happy to take their crumbs. As long as I kick one I should stay in the team.

On the serious side I think the biggest bonus the team has had this year is the young guys stepping up. All of a sudden we have David Hille who has jumped up, we’ve got Joel Reynolds who has stepped up as well as Robert Forster-Knight. Danny Jacobs has taken the next step and is holding the backline together. There are a lot of guys who have put their hand up and I think that is good for the club. I am looking forward to Thursday’s match against Collingwood. Regardless of our positions on the ladder it is always a big game against the Magpies on Anzac Day.
