After a tough period for the Bombers, July shapes as a building period as the boys continue to push their claims for a finals berth.

Essendon once again begins the month by heading interstate before returning home to play two more matches ahead of their final bye of the season.

Round 16: Port Adelaide (2nd, 11-3) @ Adelaide Oval, Saturday 5th July

The Bombers head interstate for the first time in almost a month as they tackle Port Adelaide at the newly revamped Adelaide Oval. Port Adelaide has created somewhat of a ‘Portress’ at their new home that has proved to be a difficult task for travelling teams.

After a narrow loss last weekend, Essendon will need to begin the month well as it builds for finals berth. What better way to test themselves than the hard-running, never-say-die team in Port Adelaide in their own backyard?

Round 17: Collingwood (6th, 9-5) @MCG, Sunday 13th July

A blockbuster awaits the Bombers when they face Collingwood at the MCG. Essendon will be keen to make a statement after their disappointing ANZAC Day loss to the Magpies surrendering a 37-point lead, eventually falling 23 points short.

Essendon will have its work cut out trying to limit big-man Travis Cloke who has begun to run himself into some good form in recent weeks along with Dane Swan who will be closely monitored as the Bombers attempt to prevent a replay of his 26-disposal and 4-goal demolition on ANZAC Day.

Round 18: Western Bulldogs (12th, 5-9) @ Etihad Stadium, Sunday 20th July

The Bombers are back under the roof against the Western Bulldogs in a telling game to conclude the month’s action. No doubt it will be another hard slog as it was back in round seven when Essendon clawed its way to eight-point win.

The Dogs love the contested footy and the Bomber midfield will need to get their hands on the footy first and get the ball going Essendon’s way if it has any chance to beat the Dogs for the second time this season.
