Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy said tonight he would have no hesitation in drafting Wayne Carey, providing the board and match committee believed it was in the best interests of the club. ""It would not worry me if Wayne Carey came and played at Essendon, but every club is going to say that at the moment. In the long term - Carey has probably only got two to three years left. It will get back to the board and the match committee - but we haven't discussed that yet. Carey had to leave town for a few days and we were asked to come and meet because most of the other clubs had. I have actually never met the guy in person, which is quite unusual,"" Sheedy said.

Q. It is a difficult weekend for the team in Perth...
A. The only team that has won in Perth this year is Port Power. We actually didn't play terrible but we didn't play great. We were right in the game still half-way through the last quarter. The only real area I was disappointed in was that they ended up kicking those late goals and looked as though it wasn't a contest. We were a bit fortunate because they had the ball more than us and the ball inside their 50m more than us. We are in the middle of the pack now - we are eighth. There are four teams on nine wins - so the AFL would be very, very happy with the competitive season.

Q. Where you happy with the condition of Subiaco, because there has been reports this season that the ground is too hard?I think the ground was in fantastic condition. I have to congratulate the staff and the AFL and also the West Australian Football commission.
